Save a life for 200 dollars

As I type,  in the village of ________  in Uganda,  Jews are dying of typhus and malaria, because they have no money for drugs that any penniless person could get in a western country.

The leader of the community,                       has become a good friend.. I admire the  strength, charisma and Jewish values he teaches that  keep the dream of a better future alive for others.  Last Thursday, his life was in danger. I sent him 200 dollars for drugs and clean water, After 3 days in the hospital, he is recovering.

Now I am turning to you, There are 20  others in the village whose lives are at risk.  To Jews, saving the life of another Jew is a mitzvah and more .  “Do not stand by and ail to act if your brother’s life is at stake.”  How often do you get an opportunity to save a life for 200.00?

The Abuyudaya of Uganda have worked hard to become Jews. They have practiced mitzvot for over 100 years, converted to Judaism by Conservative and Orthodox Rabbis. Their love for Judaism and Israel is pure and deep. Now they need our help.

If you cannot afford 200 give what you can.  Give because it’s the right thing to do, because every human being has a right to live,  because you are helping a Jew,  because it’s your religious or moral obligation, because people in Africa deserve to be treated as humans.

Do it out of compassion and a belief in a future where this small community can survive to fill the swamps, work their way from subsistence farming to an economy, thrive and contribute to the worldwide and the Jewish community,  and send their people to other communities to teach them to do the same. Do it because even in today's world with commitment, creativity and had work, unachievable goals become reality
